Ben Furman is a Finnish psychiatrist and specialist in brief, solution-focused therapy. The Kids’ Skills method is based on the understanding that difficulties and conflict situations faced by children are caused by undeveloped skills. That is why, the method suggests focusing on developing a new skill together with the child, rather than correcting undesired behaviour. The child also assumes an equal position to the adults – it becomes a party, which actively participates in discussing important issues and planning the steps towards a desired change.
The method consists of 15 steps. They can be implemented as part of a progressively developing programme or separately in specific situations.
