Upcoming Workshop: “A Human Rights Perspective on Domestic and Gender-based Violence”

Partners Bulgaria Foundation, in partnership with Human Rights Academy, Norway and Center for the Study of Democracy, is hosting a workshop on:

A human rights perspective on domestic and gender based violence. Exchange of best practices from Norway in working with victims of domestic and gender based violence”

Date and place: 02-04 December 2015, 09:00 – 12:00 in Hall 2 of the “Rila” Hotel, Sofia.

Expected workshop participants are: Agency for Social Assistance, General Directorate National Police and regional directorates from Burgas, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Bulgarian Judges Associations, Sofia City Court, Sofia Regional Court, Shumen Regional Court.

Representatives from the NGO sector will be Crisis Centers providing support to victims of violence as well as organisations who work to protect victims’ rights and human rights in general.

About the Workshop:

The scale of domestic and gender based violence and the need for improving existing support mechanisms will be the primary focus of the event. Our Norwegian partners will share good, working practices for tackling these issues.

The workshop hosts will be Ms Lillian Hjorth, Human Rights Academy, Norway and Dr Solveig Bergman, Norwegian Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress.

The seminar will contribute to the development of knowledge and skills of professionals working in the field of domestic and gender-based violence. The goal is to aid government institutions in making strategic decisions for improving existing policies and raising the effectiveness of available social services, which will lead to improving the victims’ condition.


About the project:

The event is part of the “National Study on Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (DGBV) and Elaboration of a Victims Support Model (VSM)” project action plan.

The project is funded under Program BG 12 “Domestic and Gender-Based Violence” of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009-2014.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the Center for the Study of Democracy and the Human Rights Academy, Norway. It is set to conclude in April 2016. Project initiator is the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The project is the result of a cooperation between government institutions and non-governmental organisations working to provide social services and support to victims of domestic and gender-based violence.
